How 'Vegan' Am I?

I feel like this will be an interesting post to write as I feel as if there's different levels of a vegan that you can be 😂 For example, one person may simply just follow a vegan diet, yet another may go to protests and live a solely vegan friendly lifestyle (if that makes any sense whatsoever...)

Admittedly I am not perfect... but then again no-body is! However, I do try to be as 'vegan' as I can be at the given moment in time. In this post I will tell you some of the main points of vegan traits that I follow, yet also things that I don't do.

I've decided to start with the simple fact that I haven't consumed any animal products in around 27 months (unless it was unintentional). The thought of consuming any animal based products generally sounds so bizarre to me. I can't seem to remember the taste of milk or eggs in fact! Yet, this may be different for other people, so don't compare yourself to me. I was brought up on a vegetarian diet, therefore have never really been around meat (and admire people that have changed from a meat based diet).

Alongside this I don't consume honey (which some vegans do I believe?). This is because of the fact that on average bees only produce around 1/12th teaspoon of honey in their lifetime yet people are happy to consume more than a teaspoon in one meal?! that's worth 24 bees work...let alone the more you consume.

A second point that I find rather 'vegan' of me is the fact that I buy cruelty free products where possible. For example, for body wash I usually buy 'original source' and for makeup stick to brands such as IT cosmetics, urban decay (once in a while!) and Eyeko. Also, we all love Lush, so I always opt for the vegan products.

Thirdly, I like to think that I promote veganism in a calm way. Personally, I don't like to preach veganism in an extreme way, yet instead answer any questions and will speak openly about my views where appropriate about my lifestyle

A final positive that I want to note is that I try to reduce my use of plastic where possible (however really struggle with our supermarkets in the UK and even some local markets as they are using plastic as well). For example, in Tesco if I am buying some bell peppers, I will buy the individual ones compared to the group packs which are in plastic packaging. Also, I am now beginning to replace my plastic toothbrushes with wooden ones instead as they are the exact same (minus harming the environment!)

Please reduce plastic usage where possible people!! 💜

Some of the negative point of how 'vegan' I am are the fact that I own leather products. However... this was before I became a vegan and didn't consider much (if anything) about the products I was purchasing.

Some of the leather products I own are a black leather jacket from topshop and Doc Martens (which I wasn't even aware had a vegan range at the time of purchase?!)

When it comes to bags etc. I love the Matt & Nat brand. Last year I bought tis purse (shown below) and am in loveee with it! To the extent that I hate taking it out too much incase I ruin it haha.

Overall I wanted to state in this post that I'm not a 'perfect' vegan, but I am trying my best to make the changes I can, as often as I can! Please let me know in the comments below how 'vegan' you are and what things you do to either promote veganism or reduce harming the environment ðŸ˜Š

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Lots of love,

Em x
